I first learned about Forsake while browsing Instagram (my favorite form of procrastination). I came across their boots, and was like, “I have to see what these boots are all about and give them a try.” I was immediately drawn to the style – simple yet functional. That’s what I needed. Something that I could wear to the office, then hit the trails. The less work I have to do with changing clothes and shoes, the better. I could wear these anywhere.
I chose the Range High so that I could keep rocks, snow, and mud out easier. They sizing is pretty true, however they do have a slightly looser fit. Plenty of room to wiggle toes and wear thick socks, but not so much that is creates blisters.
The Range High comes in this Brown/Cyprus color, or Black/Artic. I love that these boots have waterproof/breathable membrane. My feet tend to run hot, and I can’t stand when my feet sweat. The footbed has anti-microbial treatments so that your feet don’t stink later on. The HydroGuard seam-sealed membrane keeps you dry and comfortable in all kinds of weather.
Typically I spray my shoes with a light water-sealant like CampDry, but you don’t need to with these shoes.
The bottom of these boots is lined with Vibram Megagrip – its Forsake’s strongest tread yet. I didn’t notice any slipping while hiking, and thankfully they don’t make that awful squeak noise you hear with some shoes. You can walk quietly through the halls at work without annoying anyone, and hike the trails with little noise. I haven’t used these on a snowy trail yet, but I still plan on using Microspikes for really icy conditions.
The Range High also has a gusseted tongue. I know what you’re thinking – what the heck is that? This refers to boots, whether hiking, work, or military boots and is a type of tongue in boots what prevents dirt, water, pebbles, and sand from entering boots through the lace eyelets, or the space between the tongue and upper part of the boot. It’s sewn to the upper part of the boot, behind the laces, thus attached to both sides of the boot. It’s an essential part of a shoe to ensure the best water-proofing.
I like a looser-fit shoe, so I don’t typically lace up the silver eyelets, but here, it’s an option. I think it really depends on comfort level, preference, and type of terrain you are hiking in to use them.
